Webinar Recap: Field-Tested Innovation with Jesse Jonas, P.E. – How REBEL® Sensors Are Shaping the Future of Concrete Testing
At Wavelogix, we’re always looking to elevate the voices of experienced professionals who are pushing boundaries in civil engineering and concrete technology. On May 8, 2025, we had the pleasure of hosting a Lunch & Learn webinar with Jesse Jonas, P.E., Principal Engineer at All Civil Engineering and a respected voice in the Midwest concrete industry.
With a career spanning both public and private sectors—including leadership roles at MoDOT, St. Louis County, Horner & Shifrin, and the Missouri/Kansas ACPA—Jesse brought a wealth of perspective to the conversation. His current work with the Concrete Council of St. Louis (CCSL) and the Illinois Ready-Mix Concrete Association (IRMCA) reflects his ongoing commitment to innovation, education, and practical implementation in the field.
Real-World Perspective: REBEL® in Action
One of the core themes of the webinar was Jesse’s hands-on experience using REBEL® Concrete Strength Sensors in the field.
“Before REBEL, we were locked into the cylinder break system—expensive, slow, and often disconnected from what was really happening in the slab,” Jesse explained.
He first encountered REBEL while consulting on a project that required faster form stripping without compromising strength validation. The results were striking:
- Real-time strength readings directly from the structure
- No need for mix calibration
- Faster decision-making on formwork and loading
- Increased confidence in quality control
“With REBEL, you’re not estimating—you’re getting real data from your actual pour,” Jesse noted.
From Field Challenges to Smarter Job Sites
Throughout the conversation, Jesse reflected on the critical moments in his career where lack of timely strength data caused costly delays.
He highlighted REBEL’s ability to bridge the gap between traditional compliance needs and real-world project pressures, making it especially well-suited for:
- DOT & municipal work
- Bridge decks and precast applications
- Cold weather pours
- Fast-track urban projects
“It’s not a question of replacing cylinders in every case. It’s about knowing when REBEL gives you better insight—and leveraging that strategically,” he shared.
Beyond Compliance: What’s Next for Concrete Testing
As we looked to the future, Jesse emphasized the importance of data-driven decision-making on job sites.
“Smart job sites aren’t just coming—they’re already here. The firms that adopt technologies like REBEL now will be the ones leading five years from now.”
He pointed to REBEL’s compliance with AASHTO T-412, and its ability to reduce reliance on maturity curves or Bluetooth-scanning systems, as essential advantages in today’s evolving infrastructure landscape.
